To continue administering to the spiritual needs of the faithful, a makeshift church was used until the construction of a permanent one. We love the way it has grown to be the home of the most passionate and most artistic people in the Metro. This too, unfortunately was destroyed by the tremor of 1882. In 2011, Bonifacio Global City (BGC) will witness the rise of four major landmarks: Bonifacio High Street Phase 3, The Mind Museum, Mercato Centrale Food and Organic Weekend Market, and St. began the construction of a new church complex. However the earthquake in 1645 caused it considerable damage. The first concrete church for use of the faithful was built by Fray Hernando Guerrero, O.S.A. in the administration of the parish which included the barrios of Bagumbayan, Hagonoy, Uaua, Bambang, Toctocan, Ususan, Sta. He was assisted by Fray Diego de Avila, O.S.A. The first pastor of Taguig was the former Augustinian Provincial, Fray Diego Alvarez, O.S.A. On April 4, 1587, a chapter meeting of Augustinian priests held in Manila formally created the parish of Taguig and dedicated it to Saint Anne. It is presently under the jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Pasig.Įven before its establishment as a parish, Taguig was already frequented by a "vicar," Fray Melchor de Ribera, O.S.A. The parish was formerly administered by the Order of Saint Augustine. It is dedicated to Saint Anne and Joaquim, the Parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Archdiocesan Shrine of Saint Anne is the oldest church in the City of Taguig.
